The Story of AR Auto Service
![]()
We’ve always been interested in ghost stories, and would like to start the AR Auto Service/Adrenaline Racing story with “It was a dark and stormy night….”
Unfortunately, it wasn’t ever really dark or stormy and we’re not even open at night. So we’ll just tell it how it was.
The idea of an enthusiast’s online parts store came up as an idea when Eddie Nakato and Mike Wann were competing in the inaugural Open Track Challenge during the summer of 2002. The competition involved long drives of 4-8 hours between race tracks. The grueling heat and competition as well as the high level of fatigue and dehydration was an ideal mix for speculation regarding Area 51 conspiracy theories and starting a business in the automotive segment.

While we did not come to anything conclusive regarding Area 51, we did hatch a solid plan for our new online parts store www.adrenalineracing.com. Adrenaline Racing debuted in the summer of 2003 with the aim of filling a gap in the Mazda Miata owners community. Bringing new quality products from companies like Cobalt Friction and TEIN USA, Adrenaline Racing quickly gained fame in the Miata community for its knowledgeable sales staff (Eddie), blisteringly fast test driver (Eddie) and their fantastic shipping department (Eddie).
During the next few years, Adrenaline Racing grew to include many other makes and models of cars, and even branched into trackside support at Portland International Raceway. David Lee signed on during this time to take over some of the Sales and shipping duties as Adrenaline Racing had become too big for its current staff (Eddie).
In September of 2005, Adrenaline Racing made the leap to become a full service facility. Plans were made to move into the new facility in Lake Oswego and work began on outfitting the new building.
In July of 2006, AR Auto Service the new service arm of Adrenaline Racing opened its doors to the public. An amazing no expenses spared grand opening party was thrown with exotic and luxury cars on display everywhere. One attendee even remarked I thought I was going to a repair shop, not an exotic car show/rock concert! During the short time I was there, I saw two Ferrari’s, a Lamborghini, two Elise’s, a Porsche, a STI, and in the neighborhood of a dozen NSX’s!
AR Auto Service has since expanded to include a BMW certified Lead Technician, Brian Marsteller, and our newest member Ian Clinkinbeard. AR Auto Service now takes care of the Oregon Region Porsche Club’s on-track technical inspections a well as for clubs such as MotoCorsa and the BMWACA
All of us at AR Auto Service strive for nothing less than excellence and our customers have come to expect nothing less from us. Please come visit us at our new facility and don’t hesitate to call us for advice! We’re more than happy to chat with you about any automotive needs you may have. We hope to see you soon!
